Any news on the CCR-1072?
I think it was planned for November 2014, and we're just about done with November.

I would also like to know any update regarding the release date.

Mainly because I would love trying this than purchasing a Cisco 7604 router.

We need these too.

Dual hot swap power supplies are the main attraction :)

Current model CCR's (even with 10GBit interfaces) appear to be limited to single CPU core per single TCP stream. A CPU core seems to be able to handle around 1gbps traffic, ergo, any single stream appears limited to 1gbps.

ROS7 should fix this problem, and I personally wouldn't be surprised if they held off of 1072 until ROS7 is ready, but on a support ticket I have been told that 1072 will likely release with ROS6

Joe,

Have you had it confirmed ROSv7 will fix the 1Gbit per connection issue ?

Joe,

Have you had it confirmed ROSv7 will fix the 1Gbit per connection issue ?
Unfortunately it is conjecture - but it is a major performance flaw related to the multi-threaded nature of the Tilera CPU's. ROSv7 has been stated to be written in mind of utilising the multi-core architecture, a lot of this talk has been more around processes such as BGP, but one would think offering 10gbit interfaces on the 36 core, and the models we've seen of 1072 in the wild having 8 10gbit ports (if I remember correctly) they would certainly need to support multi gbit TCP streams.

So my 'should' should really be bold, italics, and highlighted (lol) and it is only my personal opinion.

Sorry, but i do not get these talks about 1Gbps+ TCP connection
Where do you have actual use for this?

For regular size packets (MTU/MRU 1500)
Latency have to be in microseconds to get such TCP connection speed, so it is impossible over Internet anyway
OK, one can use it in server rooms, but you can easily do it with 10G switch there.

Only possible way to get such TCP speeds is with large size packets (MTU/MRU 65535), but currently it is also impossible over Internet, so we are back to server rooms :)

Maybe in future, but at this point in time this is hardly the biggest issue.

Just because its not current usage requirement doesnt mean it should be limited to that. It is obvious what the problem is, and fixing it now before its a real problem for the general use is a good option. 1 valud example that comes to mind is perhaps private x-connect to another provider in the same DC, for backup or DR purposes.

there are lots of things that are more pressing for improvement than this, so i do not think they should waste time fixing it now. sometimes later yes.
Also i do not agree that it is "obvious what the problem is". Parallel multi-processing is always a hard stuff

We are a cloud services provider and use CCR to leak routes to/from our backups VRF. We can easily generate over 1gbit in a single stream to one of the backup agents.

Not everyone is using these for Internet. ...

We never have problems pushing more than 1gig via TCP on a single connection. I don't think I've seen a single core rise above 3 or 4% when routing a few gig. Keep in mind, we have no queues, no firewall, and fastpath is on, so perhaps thats where you're experiencing the ceiling?

I do wish it had more than one Ethernet port, but I guess you can get there with a SFP to copper ethernet adapter anyways.

This is one reason why SFP+ can be good, the port can basically be what you want it to be, from SM or MM Fiber to Ethernet and other possible SFP+ modules, very versatile and a good option for such large core routers - if you aren't at the point of Fiber Optic x-connects and links, then the 1072 is probably too big for your needs (could be exception to this). This is why things like the 36 core exist, with its configurations of ethernet and SFP/SFP+ ports

This is in my eyes not so really interesting, caus of the power of this router!
If you think you will need a CCR1072 device, you will not have a dedicated
look on the power comsumting, as I really see it right, ok gfood to know,
but not really urgent to know.

The CCR1036 routers are equal enough to handle the entire speed to back ward
switches insite the lan area, but with the CCR1072 also 10 GBit/s on the WAN side
can be easily handeled as I see it right. So it is really cool to hear and see that MikroTik
is right testing this device actually know.

That is less to do with the 1072 and more to do with ROSv7 (or software in general).

I've been told by support that the 1072 will release before stable ROSv7, so will come shipped with ROSv6, so unless they patch this before moving on to 7, then it may not be 'fixed' by release.

Awesome! When I visited Riga (it was more than 10 years ago) I bought sweater with such pattern for one of my friends. But it was a bit more colourfull.

Present you an idea: Now you have at least 4 colors used in different lines of your devices as well as this pattern. When you have some anniversary of Mtk or other special ocasion (*illion devices sold), you can combine colors and pattern and produce some limited edition of some device. Pity, that April, 1st is in the past. But can return to this next year: :)

UPDATE on CCR1072 (unofficial):

Word on the street from the USA MUM in Miami is that the 1072 should be here by summer. According to what we heard from MT at the conference, there were some issues with packet loss in the RFC pattern/throughput testing that had to be corrected before it could be certified and that involved some minor hardware changes. I believe it was stated there were some compatibility issues with non-mikrotik ethernet connections that also related to the hardware change.

The 1072 is a killer box...we got to see in depth demos in Miami and it was pushing close to 80 Gbps between two of them.

All very well, but not all our devices are 10gbps capable. If we could only use 10gbps modules then we would only currently be able to use 2-3 of the ports (i.e not financially viable).

I dont know what will be the use of 72cores when RouterOS cant even utilize 36 cores already.

PPP-No multi-threading
Simple Queses- No multithreading

What would you do with a 72x core router if you wont be able to use it as a Broadband Access Concentrator ?

10Gbps-capable IP core/MPLS P-router?

It has massive potential as a really cheap and affordable non-edge-facing device.

Some of the edge-facing functionality (external BGP peerings or PPP termination) will have to wait until RouterOS v7, sure, but that diminishes by nothing the current potential of the hardware.

1072 will be around $2500 new and considering the current situation of the RouterOS, it wont have any advantage over 1036 at all for me.

For example we terminate 800xPPPoE sessions on a 1036 now, and one of the cores hit %80 utilization with only dynamic simple queues.

You can get used <other vendor> gear to terminate 1000s of users within the same price scope.

I hope new releases will prove me wrong.

When you get into really large networking (10,000+ routers) services are distributed across a wide array of devices, so usually, the routers don't handle firewalling or any kind of service aggregation/termination or quality assurance like PPPoE or Individual subscriber queues. There will be a large collection of core routers that simply just route traffic as quickly as possible to and from edge/distribution areas of the network.

Most large data centers and service providers measure routing capacity in the terabits, so 80 Gbps becomes an extremely attractive option as a pure router or MPLS router for under 3k.

Since we also do design work for Cisco based data centers, I can give you the rough CAPEX savings pretty easily. The average Cisco Data Center we work on will require 1 to 2 million USD to put in a routing core capable of Terabit routing with a Nexus 7K/5K/2K deployment.

A CCR1072 can be used in an ECMP routed deployment to get to terabit with at least 13 CCRs for under 50,000 USD plus whatever switching layer you want to use which means you will be probably be under $150,000 for the entire deployment.

So...... :D

MikroTik + your favorite data center switch = $150,000
Cisco deployment = 1 to 2 million.

And to top it all off, I have had 3 times as many bugs to deal with this past year in the Cisco Nexus world as I have with MikroTik, so the extra money spent does not mean guaranteed stability.

This is a very limited and a niche market you are referring too. And you are right.

But %99 of us will still try to do firewalling/NATing + access concentration on these things along with BGP.

I'm not really sure data center and service provider is a niche market. :D

3.5 Trillion dollars are predicted to be spent in IT/Technology globally in 2015. If you look at the breakdown, Data Center and Telecommunications make up close to half of that 3.5 Trillion.

http://www.gartner.com/technology/resea ... -forecast/

MikroTik is working hard to get into these sectors because that's where most of the money in network technology is spent globally

This still doesnt justify the multi-threading incapability of RouterOS.
We need PPP and simple queues multi-threaded otherwise even 1000 cores is a joke.

Have patience..

All signs that have been revealed until now point to RouterOS v7 being a complete game changer for the CCR lineup.

Until then, whining about lack of performance is not going to help anyone. As a professional, you should be ready to look at alternative solutions to provide the outcomes you currently require.

CCR1072 has two of them
