Simple switch and routing function

Tue Dec 23, 2014 7:32 pm

Hello Everyone

I have used RouteOS products since 2006 in my ISP on a daily basis, but I cannot figure out how to make this application work as intended.

I have three devices here:

RB1200
RB 493 AH
Rb 333

RB 1200 is the ' head end unit ' looking at the DSL modem
RB 333 is the Access Point for people in the house
RB 493 AH is the Access Point for the people outside in the yard

I have 8 usable public IP addresses

RB 1200 is connected like this:

Ether1 = DSL modem to the outside world
Ether2 = goes to the RB 333 inside
Ether3 = goes to the RB 493 AH outside

If assign a public IP address to the Ether1 on the RB 1200 it does go out to the outside world no problem
If I assign a public IP address to the Ether side of the RB 333, and give it a route, I still cannot make it talk to the outside world
Same thing with the RB 493 AH; giving it a public IP address on its Ether side and routing to the outside world, I cannot make it speak to the world outside.

Trying to use the RB 1200 in a switch configuration; thought that devices connected to the ' switched ' ports could declare themselves their own addresses and then speak out to the gateway

What am I doing wrong here?

Adam

I am new to RouterOS but how about adding the three ports on RB1200 to a bridge, then assign one of the public IP addresses to the bridge.

I tried to create something similar with private IP addresses and this layout works. The router with the Bridge even set the default route automatically - 192.168.0.0/24 Bridge reachable. I hope it will help you. ;-)
