Hello, we use mikrotik devices in several instalations as CPE or edge routers. Now we are trying to Know if we can change our LAN switches with mikrotik devices (CRS226-24G-2S+RM).

More exactly we have our SAN core network with two HP 1910-24G Switch (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/netwo ... !tab=specs) .

The HP 1910-24G Switch specs says:
Latency
100 Mb Latency: < 5 µs
1000 Mb Latency: < 5 µs
Throughput
up to 41.7 Mpps
Routing/switching capacity
56 Gbps

And CRS226-24G-2S+RM says per port Bridging none (fast path), with 1518bytes per packet max throughtput is 324.2Mbps.

How we can compare these two switchs. It seems that 324Mbps is not very good result for switching not? I believe that CRS226-24G-2S+RM, can have 1Gbps throughtput if fast path is ok?

Thanks a lot,

If used only as a switch, you will get full 1 GBps out of each port.

If you use any routing or bridging, those packets will go through the CPU, which will slow them down considerably as the CPU is not particularly fast. If you need full speed routing as well, you need to look at the CCR instead.

Thanks for your answer, these answer is what I think , but i was confused because CRS125 bridging fast path is 925Mbps and CRS226 is only 324Mbps.

Is possible to have these values(latency , max global throughput Mpps, etc.. ) of CRS226 when it works as a switch, non bridge and non route.

Thanks a lot,

As I said, if used as a switch, you can expect full 1000 MBps (+ 2x 10 GBps from SFP+ ports) from all ports in each direction at the same time at all packet lengths.
