RB260GS broken for the second time, it could be restored?

Wed Mar 04, 2015 4:28 pm

Hello!

I bought RB260GS (SN 416501B3C3E4/340) at 2014 for my home lan.
First time it broke after 3 days of working: I could not connect to web-interface and it stop work even as a simple switch.
I reinstalled SwOS firmware to version 1.10 by this instruction.
After this switch was working as should.

Yesterday, I wanted to check it and tried to connect to web-interface, but I could not.
Then I discovered that indicators PWR and ACT did not work at all.
But as a switch it works.
I was trying to blindly reset it, but could not notice any result.

How to reinstall firmware if I could not catch this moment: "After few seconds ACT LED will start blinking. Wait till ACT LED blinks twice as fast and release RESET button"? Even with working indicators I hardly could do it...

Warranty with local reseller is ended now, and I want to know what to do with it - could it be repaired or now it would be just half-dead simple unmanaged switch?

Thank you.

TRY THE 30-30--30 RULE METHOD: (from google search)

1. when the unit is powered on, hold down its reset button for 30 seconds
2. while still holding down the reset button, unplug the router from power and hold for an additional 30 seconds
3. still holding down the reset button, turn on power to the router again and hold for 30 more seconds

After this process (a total of 90 seconds) is complete, your router should be restored to its factory default state. Note that your particular router may not require the full 30-30-30 procedure. For example, some routers can at times be hard reset after only 10 seconds and without power cycling. Nevertheless, I still recommended memorizing this 30-30-30 rule as a general guideline.

Well, my switch would remain half-dead. As support said:
No PWR and no ACT LED indication is enough to conclude that SwOS on this switch is unrecoverable.
