Test Configurations Before Committing to Them

Wed Apr 15, 2015 6:51 pm

Is there any way to test configuration changes on RouterOS without committing to them? I was just playing around with my router's firewall remotely, made a mistake and now I've locked myself out and brought the internet down. My only resolution now is to drive to it's location, physically reset the thing and then restore a backup. Is there a way to temporarily apply config changes and have it revert if not confirmed?

Ubiquiti products do this very well. You make all the changes you want on the web interface, and then when you are ready, you click "Test". It will apply the changes, and then if you don't log back in and hit confirm within a couple minutes, it will automatically revert those changes. That way, if you did something that brakes your connection (ability to make further changes), it will revert back so you can try again.

Is there any function like this with RouterOS? If not, I'd highly recommend it to help those of us who have "oops" moments recover much quicker.
