After trawling the boards for config snippets or wikis for some suggestions as to the right method to do what I want I'm coming up with nothing that works.

I've seen a post from 2007 that sort of covers what I'd like, but there's nothing of substance that I can use. Some people mention firewall mangling, others mention routes and some BCP.

Things to note:

* Using rb750 at RouterOS 6.28
* The L2TP client provides a single address and gateway, so I can't do specific value based rules for firewall/nat etc since the ip provided may change. The address I get from the L2TP is listed in /ip address print

Hi, i'm not sure that I understood you right.

But may be you could allow connections to L2TP Port (1701) from specific Interface only.

Sorry for not making myself clear.

I wish to send data over interface eth5 to the L2TP tunnel or to put it another way - The device connected to eth5 uses the L2TP connection rather than the default gateway of eth1, but allow eth2-eth4 to behave as normal using eth1 gateway.
