How many PPPoE users can MT-RB support?

Sun Jul 16, 2006 8:24 pm

We are moving from DHCP to PPPoE. Currently we have up to 1000 users per tower subsystem but most are 150 ~ 400 users per tower. We do not use the MT for wireless connections, we only use it for routing.
Each tower has a switch for layer 2 and a router for layer 3, OSPF, and DHCP. We need to move to PPPoE because we have outgrown the DHCP model and we want to keep the amount of usage under control. We use mostly RB230's and RB532's with as much ram as I can get in them.
How many PPPoE users or what is the RAM overhead to each client? I have been looking in the docs but have not found the answer.
Does anyone know how to calculate the RAM / Client ratio?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I can't help you with exact numbers, but you should be able to use another MT device to serve as 100 or so PPPoE clients, to monitor memory usage.
