Netwatch + VPN

Good day,

First of all, sorry if this was already answered but I didn't find anything with the search.

Actually to check my VPN connections I use an script that makes a ping to the Remote LAN through my LAN-Interface. It doesn't work with WAN-Interface.

I know it works fine with the scripts, but I was curious if we could use Netwatch instead (that is what it is for no?)
My question is, is there a way to make a ping to an specific address with Netwacht using the LAN-Interface? because I don't see I can choose any Interface and it uses the WAN-Interface by default, so my ping doesn't work.

Thanks.

You cannot choose almost anything with netwatch. There are already requests for that, jut dig the forum.

But, there is a solution for you. You can make custom routing rule that will force the traffic for specific address thru special port (if there is a gateway behind it). Make also the second same rule with blackhole with higher distance to ensure the packets will be dropped if the port will be down. Otherwise it will be routed to default gateway so you will not notice that the vpn is down.
