Dude for 7.1?

Probably a dumb question, but I noticed there isn't any Dude image or install downloads for any of the latest 7.1 RouterOs downloads. Is the Dude server no longer going to be updated?? I'm trying to just do a Windows Net install onto USB stick and I can't select a Dude 6.49 install if I'm doing a 7.1 system.

Not dumb - I asked sales@mikrotik.com but got no response. I kept thinking it appear in some late beta or "rc".

I'd imagine it will make a reappearance, maybe updated – although I'd take the same one running as an extra-package under v7. Now in reality, not sure it be a good idea to run networking monitoring on a new OS/kernel/etc. At the same time, it be nice not to have to deal with the v6/v7 differences once v7 is released.

Dear Mikrotik support team.

I think people request tthis often and you should give some sortf of reply on whether there will be a Dude v7 ever, at all.

Best regards.

If I was a bookie, I'd be putting that 100-to-1 the Dude comes out before end of the year. Mikrotik does likes surprises (see ZeroTier, Containers) – even if customers would prefer less mystery.

Where's that Dude Nostradamus?

If we are lucky we will see a first beta before q1 2022 ends. If we are lucky.

Any updates about this? Or at least a planned release quarter year? :D

Is this 7.1 stable really stable? In the neighbor list the reported version is still "testing".

Hello, I do not understand why you have been publishing Dude V7 CLIENT for a long time, if SERVER V7 not exist, can anyone logically explain it to me?

Mmm, my previous post was somehow published and then deleted...

I was asking about a possible ETA for v7.1 Dude server? It was disappointing to upgrade my RB4011 to v7.1, upgrade my Dude client, and only to discover afterwards that Dude server wasn't still available.

I was thinking on buy a "dude edition" device instead my RB750Gr3, but I don't understand how exist the 7.x client but none of 7.x server working yet... Sorry but the purchase of high end switch will be delayed with no date...

I have bought 200$ mikrotik and I just found I can't use it with dude because I can't downgrade it to v6 (because it is factory set to v7) and there is still no dude for v7.
I hope I will not have to wait for too long. Fingers crossed.

Is there a way to use v7 devices as agents for 6.48 dude server ?
Or any other way-around, where the routers will be upgraded to v7 but still be used as agents for v6 Dude ?

Mikrotik never publishes ETA because they got burned enough times.
Let them fix majority of bugs in v7 first, finalize docker etc.. and then they may look at TheDude. It was sidelined for ages now with barely any bugfixes and absolutely no functionality development.
Don't expect miracles.

Docker is cool, but dude is used in MAAAAANY installations already, so I would try to finish the dude first and then fix the docker!

I use theDude myself (and have separate machine for docker) but my or your opinion does not matter. Mikrotik made big news with the docker support and thats serious advantage over competition. All this publicity now needs to be used correctly, or it will turn against mikrotik.

Think that's good advice – it is a monitoring solution so if it has a bug, you loose visibility of problems...

But we've started moving to ZeroTier for remote management/access, having to route Dude traffic though a V7 router with ZT to communicate with remote Mikrotik does make it more complex/fragile too. A V7 Dude Server solve that...

I do not have much experience with RouterOS.

Can a router with 7.1 OS run The Dude v6 package? I have uploaded the package but the router is on a remote location and I do not want to reboot to test.

Well, it seems the story has changed.

See @normis in viewtopic.php?t=183119#p912095 from today:
We have not done work on the Dude for some time now. If it works for you, great, you can use it. But there is no active development on the Dude at the moment. It may resume in the future, it's not known.
Don't know what the means for the Dude server, but doesn't sound good.

We have quite a few AH1100 "Dude edition" deployed where BOTH the Dude AND Zerotier at the same time be quite useful (e.g. to monitor remote Mikrotik LTE devices via Zerotier/Wireguard). Dude requires V6, and modern VPNs requires V7, so kinda stuck here.

Seems like a good reason to keep at least one device on ROS6 at home ...
Bummer though, it would be nice to have it on ROS7.

This is the kinda shit that gets me looking at different vendors.

Mikrotik has "hobby projects" someone "feels" like working - maybe.

Zero strategy, zero leadership and zero respect to customer base.

Prove me wrong.

All I know is we won't be ordering any more of the RB1100AHx4 in the near future – with no idea when containers nor dude will come. In fact, we just ordered a couple Turris Omnia (lower CPU, disk than RB1100, but does have containers, USB 3.0, and miniPCIe) to try out as potential replacement of the RB1100 we're using as the head-end for remote LTE device. That's 2 x $400 Mikrotik isn't getting. Drop in the buck to MT... but there is competition out there.

Totally agree: Using MT for a while, but the continual failure to present a high-level road map is quite frustrating. Waited a VERY long for for ROS V7 to come out to get MBIM, but that was long in Linux/OpenWRT and critical to working with any modern LTE modem/hotspot. The same goes for the Wi-Fi: I kept expecting at some point they have at least one device with 802.11ax or at least Wave2, still nothing. And now finding out the Dude, which we use, isn't going to be available as an off-hand comment in an internet forum.

I love RouterOS design, and it's abstracting away all the Linux/hardware stuff, but there product management doesn't ever seem to be improving. But picking part this forum to guess at product roadmap, so our company can make our own plans, is ridiculous. They can't even be bother to update there website to at least communicate to potential customers that the Dude is deprecated - in fact from https://mikrotik.com/thedude -
The Dude network monitor is a new application by MikroTik
If MT is going to drop/deprecate it, then don't advertise it as "new". I still fail to see why they can't even at least port the same V6 Dude to the V7 build, even if nothing changed other than it ran on V7.

So the fix in 7.2 allows RouterOS v7 routers to be "registered" as agents on Dude Server v6?
Is that correct?

To help those who are still wondering if the Dude is available for ROS 7, it is included in the "Extra packages" download.

Not arguing against improvements in The Dude. But if you want modern icons, that actually possible today. You can upload an SVG file to <dude_dir>/files, then in Devices (left menu) > Types tab, either add/modify device picking the SVG icon you uploaded.
